My name is David Aderogba and I'm studying A2 Media Studies at the Bridge Academy. I have a strong interest in Media, music especially. I like the idea of creating a short story with meanings and concepts all based on music. Having previously produced a short film opening sequence for my AS Media project, I feel like my experience can help push me the greater distance this year.

 

Last year, my Foundation Portfolio was to create a short Film Opening Sequence. To do this, I had to show my understanding of technical elements and terminologyResearch an abundance of theories and concepts of Narrative and codes and conventions of Genres, by key theorists such as Tzetvan TodorovRoland Barthes, and Daniel Chandler; and also carry out surveys in order to statistically choose and understand my desired target audience and their preferences of film. Planning was also a vital element of the project.

For this year, my Advanced Portfolio is to create a Music Video. In addition to this, we also have to create a website promoting our new "album" and a digipak to go with it.

 

A promotional package is an artist's way of introducing themselves to the music industry or to create awareness of an upcoming album, tour, single, etc. Within a promotional package is usually a music video, digipak, website, an advert and other methods of promotion. Being a much more convenient method of communicating with everyone an artist wants to work with; promotional packages could be physically sent through mail or sent digitally as eletronic promo packages.

 

A digipak is a gatefold packaging for CDs/DVDs commonly made from cardboard. They contain a plastic holder for one or more discs. The purpose of a digipak is to embody the theme and meaning of an album; acting as the forefront of the artist's image.

Adverts are used to broadcast a product, issue, individual, etc. as a way of raising awareness of the particular subject. Artists use advertising to additionally add to their popularity, consistently promoting themselves so long as their advert is displayed on TV, billboards, magazines or others.

Music videos are short films integrating a song and imagery, produced for promotional or artistic purposes. Music videos benefit artists because it allows them to tell a story and be creative visually, putting their thoughts and imagination into a video format for an audience to watch and possibly further understand the artist. This could be seen as their own point of view, or somehing completely fictional - anything is possible.
